Walmart China to shell out RMB100 Million for food safety upgrade
It will roll out over the next 3 years.
In a release, Walmart China today announced a pledge to invest RMB 100 million towards further strengthening food safety management over the next three years.
The announcement was made by Walmart China President & CEO Greg Foran at a Sam’s Club in Panyu, Guangzhou, where an event was held to celebrate the expansion of Walmart China’s Mobile Lab food safety initiative.
Mobile Lab is a first of its kind program that outfits customized vans with highly advanced food safety inspection technology, and staffs them with third party specialists trained in food science and technology, biology, chemistry and agriculture.
During its pilot launch over the past six months, the Mobile Lab program served 33 stores in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan. Following this successful trial, Mobile Lab will be extended to cover more than 70 stores across all of Guangdong Province.
“Operating with integrity has been a consistent criterion of Walmart as we strive to provide products of value for our customers”, said Foran.
“For Walmart, value means not only delivering everyday low prices, but ensuring safety and high quality as well. The Mobile Lab program is an important part of this commitment, and while we’re thrilled to expand it to cover all of Guangdong Province we are already considering plans to extend it even further into other provinces.”
