Sun Life Hong Kong names Wim Hekstra as CEO

In a release, the Board of Directors of Sun Life Hong Kong and Sun Life Financial Asia President, Kevin Strain, announced that Wim Hekstra has joined Sun Life Hong Kong (SLHK). Pending regulatory approval from the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, Wim will be named Chief Executive Officer.

In this role, Wim will be responsible for growing the Sun Life Hong Kong business, which includes both an individual life and an industry-leading Pensions business.

“Sun Life Hong Kong is a critical part of our growth strategy in Asia and we are focused on continuing to develop our business in this very important market,” said Kevin Strain, President, Sun Life Financial Asia.

Wim joins Sun Life Hong Kong from another multi-national insurance company where he held senior positions including as Head of their China as well as Co-Head for the company’s Hong Kong and Macau business.

Wim has a strong understanding of the Hong Kong market particularly in the areas of agency distribution, brokerage and bancassurance. Wim also brings with him a wealth of expertise outside the insurance business, including a previous role as Managing Director of a multi-national consumer goods business in Hong Kong.
