BEA Union Investment appoints Schoeppl as CIO

Elke Schoeppl, BEA Union Investment's Head of Equity, will become the Chief Investment Officer effective 1 July 2009. Ms. Schoeppl will replace Mr. John Lai Sung-ziang, who will leave the firm on 30 June 2009 after more than four years of service in the Bank of East Asia Group’s investment management business.

An accomplished investment professional, Ms. Schoeppl has more than a decade of portfolio management experience with a particular focus on Asian markets. Prior to joining BEA Union Investment, Ms. Schoeppl specialised in Asian and emerging market equities at Union Asset Management Holding AG in Frankfurt, one of BEA Union Investment’s parent firms.

At BEA Union Investment, she has been instrumental in setting up the investment team since the firm’s establishment and currently heads the equity team, which consists of highly seasoned investment professionals. In her new role, Ms. Schoeppl will oversee all of the firm’s investment activities including equity, fixed income, multi-asset, and risk management. She will also interact closely with the investment team of Union Investment in Frankfurt.

“With her extensive international experience and best practices gained from Union Investment, one of the leading asset managers in Germany, Elke will ensure that we continue to offer world-class investment services to our customers through consistent strategy execution and reliable performance," said Mr. Ilex Lam Ka-keung, CEO of BEA Union Investment.
