POWER UTILITY | India eyes power from Myanmar

Power Grid Corporation of India is negotiating a transmission project deal with Myanmar to bring about 1,000 MW to India.

This was revealed by S.K. Chaturvedi, chairman and managing director of Power Grid, India’s power transmission utility.

The power will be sourced from the Tamanti hydro project in Myanmar.

Power-deficient India is partnering with neighbours such as Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka to develop power projects in those countries. The arrangement is intended to provide India with much-needed electricity, while the South Asian neighbours get investment.
