ENVIRONMENT | NPCIL contradicts news of Tarapur leak

NPCIL stated that there is no situation that can cause potential radioactivity release at the Tarapur Atomic Power Station.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited complained about news stating that radioactivity released from unit-4 of Tarapur Atomic Power Station has been averted.

Tarapur's unit 4 was shutdown to take up the maintenance of solenoid valves, motors and some other components of the fuelling machines. The unit is expected to come on line after completion of mandatory tests and procedures.

India's Parliamentary Standing Committee deliberating Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, 2010, led by chairperson Dr. T. Subbarami along with 20 members of parliament and six secretariat officials recently visited Tarapur Atomic Power Station.

The committee reviewed the nuclear safety, personnel and environmental safety, emergency preparedness and the safety provisions and measures at Tarapur Atomic Power Station.

The committee took note of the various assurance measures at TAPS and expressed satisfaction.
